ZOB Hamburg

Hamburg’s newly built Central Bus Station stands on Adenenauerallee, an extremely busy main road on its north side, and is flanked to the south by an urban green belt. The site’s challenging urban context was addressed in the competition proposal. In urban planning terms, the building’s cross-section and the ground plan configuration create a trenchant edge vis-à-vis the traffic artery, while the building’s southern half clasps the adjoining park to create a soft transition compatible with the landscaped surrounds.
